Tips on gaining Self confidence in Leadership

Many people manage and gain self-confidence in many different ways. There are some girls who cannot walk out of the house to through the garbage without layering on the make up. Some women go to big events with non or minimal make up. It all boils down to perspective and self-esteem. Likewise, there are also many people who have been shot down so hard by either parents or their employees with such harsh words that it demotivated and cut the self-esteem of the person.

Life will have its ups and downs and the exciting part is to learn to always improve and pick up after a fall. Easier said than done, there is a guideline and a way to have self esteem no matter what your circumstances are. Start by asking yourself the following.

 

1. Do I have low self esteem?

2. Can I speak confidently with strangers?

3. What happened to me in the past to make me shy away?

4. What happens to me physically when I talk to strangers?

5. What am I thinking when I talk to strangers?

6. How do I talk to myself, positively or negatively?

7. How do I feel when people don’t believe me?

8. How do I react when someone fails me?

 

After you have spoken and thought to yourself, communicate with those around you who you can trust to give honest feedback. Ask them if you show you lack confidence and express areas you know you need improvements on that effect your Self Confidence in Leadership.

 

The Past, Present and Future

What happened to you from a young age stemmed a part of your self-confidence in who you are today. And who you choose to be today will be you tomorrow. It is a domino effect and just a matter of you making it your choice to change. Take control of what you can while you can.

 

Deal with your past

Whether you reach out to a therapist, a close friend or family member, just be mindful of what your goal is - to have self-confidence in Leadership. Take constructive feedback. Deal with the trauma in the past by understanding yourself today and how far you have come.

1. Find out how you felt then and now about the past experiences that hurt you.

2. Baby steps - what do you wish you did right?

 

Live in the present

1. Who do you admire? Look at that and try to mimic them.

2. What is your weakness? Do you have a temper? Are you impatient? Try meditation.

3.  Learn self control. Take a time-out 15 mins or so, do the breathing exercise.

4. Ask for help

What is your future

Everything you do in your present affects your future so remember to just keep taking baby steps to improving so that your future is bright.

Looking Confident versus Feeling Confident

Looking like a confident leader is harder than feeling confident, believe it or not. How you feel will always reflect on the outside. As a leader, you are consistently in communication with your team, telling them:

-  how you want things done

- which direction to take

- the consequences of work not done well or on time

 

It will always reflect your confidence because you have to be very sure and firm so that the rest of the team feel confident being under your wings. Leaders don’t need to know everything but decisions and direction must be communicated effectively.
