How To Be The Best Leader, Simply
How To Be The Best Leader, Simply
All of us had to be the best leader, at least once in our life. School teachers, corporate managers, team leads, parents, guardians and head of group projects are examples of positions in leadership. We are leaders in our natural form, and that is what we do best!
There are many types of leaders who also have their own ideas of what it means to be the best leader.
Generally speaking a leader is:
1. Someone who motivates others to do something.
2. Someone who sets targets, goals, the vision and mission.
3. Someone who guides, supports, and ensures the team has the tools to achieve their goals.
What are the characteristics of a leader, at best?
While differing slightly in certain aspects, the most effective leaders across the board tend to exhibit 6 major characteristics:
1. Create Targets.
Setting goals or targets will motivate and help guide team members to reach. Goals or targets must be measurable for ease of the team to see for themselves what they need to achieve and what has yet to be achieved best. This will create a sense of purpose and accountability for the individuals in the team as a leader.
2. HAVE A Vision.
Apart from target which are short-term and operational, leaders share the best long-term goal and ‘bigger picture’ and can unite their team members behind their vision.
3. Empower OTHERS.
The most important part of teaching is empowering the individual. When we empower people to do something, we best show trust and hope to others which will make them feel motivated and increase their self-esteem to deliver.
4. Communicate EFFECTIVELY.
Great leaders not only do the talking but a lot of listening as well. As humans, particularly as leaders, we do not know everything and 2 heads are always better than 1 at best. Brainstorming is always a good idea where ideas are shared, and any gaps or uncertainty is filled.
5. PRACTICE Empathy.
This is rooted from understanding and communicating with your team. It is a 2-way street. When you empathise best as a leader with others, you try to best understand their hardship and work together as a team for a solution. This will inevitably create trust within the team, and as a leader.
6. DRIVEN TO ALWAYS BE BETTER.
Leaders are always looking to improve the way things are done, including how they themselves work. To implement change, the leader must change first. Innovation is valued in every organisation that is growing. Constructive feedback will be valued by both leaders and the best team members.
How do YOU, become the best leader?
Follow these 3 easy steps to become the best leader.
Step 1: Stay Open to Constructive Feedback
Leadership is a lot to do with interpersonal and social skills. Many confuse this with power and control. The best leaders make time to listen and learn about their team members and the unique qualities they each have. This allows the leader to create opportunities best for the team members to capitalize on their strengths and maximize their efficiency. Ask for feedback and inquire about employee ideas. When team members feel valued, they will feel more passionate and motivated to achieve the set goals they believe in and care about.
Step 2: Try to Delegate Fairly
Taking the time to know your team both personally and professionally will help enable you as the leader to delegate work best. If you know person A is not good in writing but good with art and designing, and person B is bad at art and designing but good at writing, delegate accordingly. As time pass, people when recognise their weaknesses, learn to improve them and by then the leader can rotate the work fairly.
Step 3: Always seek Opportunities to Improve
⮚ Search for the best leadership training by various institutions and groups from the same Management level or higher.
⮚ Reach out to those who inspire you best and having a meeting to discuss.
⮚ Create team-building activities in the office or out on the play-field.
