Challenges in finding focus
Most people have a hard time focusing on a daily basis, finding it difficult to remain on-task consistently. There are a lot of reasons for this, but the most common one is that our attention span as a generation has been diminishing over the years. This is mostly due to the modern lifestyle we have chosen to live where everything is in constant movement and change yet demands so much of our attention, instantaneously. There are many of us who are working parents who need to juggle the kids, the house chores, handle the workload from home, prepare meal time and so on. Even more so for those who keep pets and plants.
There are countless things that can distract you from focusing on what really matters. The good news is, developing focus is possible. You just need to know how and when to do it. It may be easier than you think.

I’ve found a lot of people who are at their wits end on how to focus better, or why they can’t focus. It really frustrates me because it’s something I struggle with as well. Not being able to focus has led many to try out a lot of different products and home remedies and here are a few we would recommend.
1. Caffeine
There's no magic pill to boost IQ or make you smarter -- but certain substances, like caffeine, can energize you and help you concentrate. Found in - but not limited to - coffee, tea, chocolate, and most energy drinks, caffeine gives you that unmistakable wake-up buzz. It is a safe practice to have one or two cups of coffee a day, but make sure to monitor yourself as different people have different reactions to caffeine with some people becoming jittery after ingesting too many espressos.
2. Peppermint Essential Oils
Peppermint produces one of the best oils to use for focus and concentration. The minty aroma stimulates the mind and provides a boost of energy. Add 4 to 6 drops of Peppermint mixed with lemon into a diffuser to raise your spirits when you need to get things done.
3. Sugar for Alertness
Sugar is your brain's preferred fuel source -- not table sugar, but glucose, which your body processes from the sugars and carbs you eat. That's why a glass of OJ or another fruit juice can offer a short-term boost to memory, thinking, and mental ability. Go easy on the added sugar though, as it has been linked to heart disease and other detrimental conditions.
4. Fish (Omega-3)
A protein source linked to great brain boosts is fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that are key for brain health. These healthy fats provide amazing brain power: A diet with higher levels of them has been linked to lower dementia and stroke risks and slower mental decline; plus, they may play a vital role in enhancing memory, especially as we get older.
For brain and heart health, eat two servings of fish weekly.
5. Nuts
Nuts like almonds are good sources of the antioxidant vitamin E, which has been linked in some studies to less cognitive decline as you age. Enjoy up to an ounce a day of nuts to get all the benefits you need with a minimum excess of calories, fat, or sugar.
6. Blueberries
Research on animals has shown that blueberries may help protect the brain from the damage caused by free radicals and may reduce the effects of age-related conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
7. Benefits of a Healthy Diet
It may sound basic but it's true: If your diet lacks essential nutrients, it can hurt your ability to concentrate. Eating too much or too little can also interfere with your focus. A heavy meal may make you feel lethargic (tired), while too few calories can result in distracting hunger pangs and also limit focus.
Strive for a well-balanced diet full of a wide variety of healthy foods to best grow and protect your brain.
